  • The queen is also distantly related to Justin Timberlake, since they’re both descended from Edward I.

[This isn’t all that special though.](http://phenomena.nationalgeographic.com/2013/05/07/charlemagnes-dna-and-our-universal-royalty/)

  • That’s just a quirk of genealogy – if you go far back enough, everyone’s related. For example, the Duchess of Cambridge/Kate Middleton is [an eighth cousin seven times removed](http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2011/03/31/article-1371802-0B6A067B00000578-904_634x784.jpg) of George Washington, as well as a 14th cousin to both her husband – Prince William – and..Ellen Degeneres. Kate isn’t even aristocratic: coal miners are among her immediate ancestors. Almost everyone with predominantly English ancestry is a direct descendant of King Edward III.

  • Guy I work with claims to be twice related to himself within the last 200 years on a first cousin or closer level. And he’s damn proud of it since it keeps his connections to random European royalty “cleaner”.

Explains a lot of his issues…

  • Go back far enough and you’ll find you’re also probably related to well known figures. I’m related to Seth McFarlane, Bing Crosby, the Bush family, and many others just because of of one common ancestor. A Mayflower passanger named William Brewster.

  • On a side note, I am the 8 times great grandson of George Washington’s uncle John. Which means I have the same ancestor.

    EDIT- I am G.W.’s 1st cousin 9 times removed.

  • I do wish people would stop referring to her as the Queen of England. *Clearly* every reference should be to:

Her Majesty Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, of Great Britain, Ireland and the British Dominions beyond the Seas Queen, Defender of the Faith, Duchess of Edinburgh, Countess of Merioneth, Baroness Greenwich, Duke of Lancaster, Lord of Mann, Duke of Normandy, Sovereign of the Most Honourable Order of the Garter, Sovereign of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Sovereign of the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle, Sovereign of the Most Illustrious Order of Saint Patrick, Sovereign of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Sovereign of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, Sovereign of the Distinguished Service Order, Sovereign of the Imperial Service Order, Sovereign of the Most Exalted Order of the Star of India, Sovereign of the Most Eminent Order of the Indian Empire, Sovereign of the Order of British India, Sovereign of the Indian Order of Merit, Sovereign of the Order of Burma, Sovereign of the Royal Order of Victoria and Albert, Sovereign of the Royal Family Order of King Edward VII, Sovereign of the Order of Merit, Sovereign of the Order of the Companions of Honour, Sovereign of the Royal Victorian Order, Sovereign of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem.*

    *^^amongst ^^others ^^of ^^course.

  • The queen is also a distant relative to Tsar Nicholas of Russia. Interesting.

  • All the US presidents we’ve had so far (with the exception of the Dutchman Martin van Buren) are all related to each other by virtue of being descended from King John of England.

  • Got-damn illuminati

  • This is highly unremarkable because a) everyone is distantly related to everyone else if you go back far enough, and b) both George Washington and the Queen have a lot of British ancestry, only increasing the chances of them being not-so-distantly related.

  • Queen of the United kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, unless Scotland, Wales and NI have all suddenly become independent overnight? Seriously call her Queen Elizabeth or the Queen of Great Britain. Calling her Queen of England is a disservice to her millions of non English subjects. *god save the Queen plays on full blast in the background*

  • His daughter was Washington’s grandmother. Biologically possible that they could have been alive at the same time, as great grandfather and great grandson.
These are the kinds of connections between the U.S. and U.K. that people don’t think about very much. Aside from politics, culture, and language, we are close kin compared to most people in the world.

  • I just found out I’m second cousins with George Washington and 9th cousins with Queen Elizabeth! George Washington’s great grandpa is my 11th great grandpa. Ancestry.com is fascinating

  • There is no queen of England.

  • If you go back 32 generations you would need 6 billion ancestors. There is nothing but inbreeding when you go back 6 generations.

  • That’s the Queen of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to you. There hasn’t been a “queen of England” for over 400 years.

    EDIT: 300, not 400

EDIT 2: Nope, I had it right first time. Elizabeth I (died 1603) was the last Queen of England (and Ireland). England was the unified with Scotland, and James VI of Scotland became James I of England.

  • [All but one US President are descendent from King John, who signed the Magna Carta.](http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2183858/All-presidents-bar-directly-descended-medieval-English-king.html)
I don’t know about President Tangerine.

  • There hasnt been a queen of England since 1707…

  • That relative? None other than Count Dracula

  • Dude looks like he should be in a Metal band
